Heycroft Primary School

South East Essex Academy Trust (SEEAT)

Personal, Social, Health & Economic Education

We follow a whole‑school approach to promoting positive behaviour, mental health, wellbeing, resilience and achievement.

At Heycroft, our PSHE curriculum provides a framework through which pupils develop key knowledge, skills and attitudes to support their personal, social and emotional development. Learning opportunities include children’s rights, British Values, economic understanding, and spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Our PSHE and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) curriculum is carefully sequenced using a spiral approach, ensuring clear progression as pupils move through the school. Lessons are taught weekly using a range of age‑appropriate and sensitive teaching strategies, and are delivered in line with statutory guidance and our school policy.

Parental Consultation and Right to Withdraw

At Heycroft Primary School, we value working in partnership with parents and carers.

In line with Department for Education guidance, we consult parents when developing and reviewing our Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) provision. As part of this process, we have shared detailed information about our RSE curriculum, including what is taught, how it is taught, and parents’ rights, in the presentation embedded on this page.

Parents and carers are encouraged to view the presentation and are welcome to share any questions, comments or views with the school. This feedback helps inform how we plan and deliver our RSE curriculum.

Relationships Education and Health Education are statutory and are taught to all pupils.
Sex Education in primary schools is optional, and parents have the right to withdraw their child from Sex Education taught as part of PSHE. This right does not apply to statutory science content.

Parents are informed in advance when Sex Education will be taught and are able to view teaching materials on request, including any resources from external providers. Parents wishing to discuss the curriculum or request withdrawal should contact the school via their year group email address.
