Who are they?
I work from home for my husband’s business, which works largely within the rail industry, carrying out all the usual administrative tasks that running a business requires, including writing risk assessments and safe systems of works packs. I have four children, three of whom are now adults, with my youngest attending The Deanes.
Gareth Daniels (Vice Chair)
I have worked as a CAD technician/ manager within the construction and railway industry for the last 15+ years, and have run my own business in computer aided design for the last 10+ years. I can also design and build websites. I’m looking forward to the challenge of helping the school thrive and maintain its high level of achievements.
Pupil Premium
Sports Premium
I am a member of the SEEAT teaching team working at Holt Farm Junior School. I have over a decade of teaching and leadership experience across all primary age ranges from EYFS - Year 6 as well as Special Needs Education. I currently lead PE at Holt Farm, and also support here at Heycroft.
I attended Heycroft as a student where my Mum was a midday assistant and now have two children of my own who attend the school. I am passionate about Heycroft and its importance to the local community having lived in Eastwood all my life.
As a governor, I will be responsible for overseeing Pupil Premium and Sports Premium and will be working closely with the school leaders to ensure funding is spent effectively as well as ensuring the sports offer at Heycroft being accessible and impactful for all pupils.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy playing and watching football, attending my children’s sporting activities and running long distance races, often for local charities.
Safeguarding
Inclusion
I have significant experience of leadership in schools, as an Ofsted Inspector and currently working as an adviser/consultant in Local Authorities, schools and specialist provisions. I have particular areas of expertise in special educational needs, safeguarding and behaviour and safety.
Behaviour
Parent Forum
I am a qualified Careers Advisor, specialising in supporting young people with SEND. Over the years I have worked in a range of non teaching roles in the education and charity sector supporting individuals to access education, training and employment opportunities.
I have two children in the school both in Key Stage 2 and have lived in Eastwood for most of my life. I am excited to be part of the newly formed Local Governing Body and hope to bring both my work and parent experiences to the role to make a positive contribution to the Heycroft community.
Mental Health and Wellbeing
Parent Forum
I have a child currently in KS1, and I’m taking a lead on mental health and wellbeing for staff and children alike, as well as co-leading the new Parent Forum. I am passionate about children as the greatest asset to our future.
As a senior manager in the local NHS, a Leadership Development and Executive Coach, and a self-confessed continually curious learner, I am no stranger in making decisions impartially, focusing on the greater good and the right thing to do. I will bring all of this experience, insight, and curiosity to a Governing Body.
While I do not bring professional experience in education directly, I live and breathe that the quality of education provided to our children has a greater impact on future health and wellbeing than anything the NHS can achieve alone; there is nothing more important that we can do for our communities than supporting education.
The structure
Most of the governor's work is carried out by the full governing board at committee meetings. This happens at least once a term and includes every governor who is able to attend.
Michelle the Chair of Governors, can be contacted via the office email office@heycroft.southend.sch.uk or the school address with correspondence for the Chair as 'For the Attention of The Chair of Governors.'
